PALMERSTON N., August 30. The Manawatn golf tournament began yesterday, when C. Louisson won the 36-hole stroke handicap, and Kapi Tare ha- won the driving competition. To-day there was almost a gale, and play was remarkable for Arthur Duncan’s fine score, in the 18-hole stroke competition. He went out in 35, _ and came in on 41. Avinning the competition from four behind scratch, R. Abbott 91 —10—81, being second. The first two rounds. of the match play for the; championship have left in the following: Arthur Duncan, Kapi Tareha, J. C. Bidwill, and Ken. Duncan, who play in this order in the semifinals to-morrow. A bogey handier - to-day resulted in a tie between H. Butter-worth (3), F. Seifert (6), and Dr. Oox (5), all at 2 dowin.. They nlay off to-morrow.
