GEORGE STEPHENSON’S MUSICAL COMEDY COMPANY.
Tlie above company Avill appear at. Flis Majesty’s Theatre on. Monday and Tuesday next. . Speaking of the opening performance' in Wellington, the “Dominion” says:—“The large audience Avas highly appreciative throughout, demanding encores of almost all the performers. There Avas a touch of unicorn ventiouality about tlie entertainment that soon brought artists and audience into liainnv touch. Avith one another, and an all-round healthy, funr-predueing show Was submitted. It is a wholesome class of entertainment that groAvs on a public,. Mr. Leslie Flqlm.es submitted a quantity of ‘‘unmitigated nonsense, and the mere he submitted the more the audience' seemed to Avant. Mr. Holmes might safely Avager that in one or other of his numerous Avays he could make any person in the audience laugh. Miss Madeline Forme, - mezzo-soprano, Avas in decidedly bettor voice than Avhen first heard ; and Miss Ruby Guest played a delightful banjo ditty, “Darkies Jubilee,” that pleased everybody, and induced them to demand moie. A rather remarkable development of • tlie falsetto voice is exhibited by Mr George Winstaniey, whose turn .iim consequence has a decided drabness about it. It is not necessary, however, to reieapaibula e all tlie items of the pro gramme. I lie entertainment is clever, wholesome', bright, and diversified, and calculated to please' everyone. PATHE PICTURES. His Majesty’s Theatre was Avell filled last evening Avhen the management of the Path© Pictures introduced a further complete change' of programme. The series opened with a beautifully colored scenic film entitled ‘ Beai Hunting in Malay,”, and the exquisite tinting of the various scenes, called forth many expressions of admiration. “The Region of • Mount Ararat” was another interesting scenic number, and it afforded a fine view, of the spot Avliich lias long been hailed as the last vesting place of the ark. Tlie most conspicuous fact about the programme, boAvever, AA r as the great number of topical pictures included, and one. of the foremost of these was a depiction entitled “The King Reviews tlie Troops at Aldershot.” King George is seen several times mounted oh Ins superb charger in the picture, and the manoeuvres of the troops before him demonstrate AA-hat. training can do. The preparation of the interior of Westminster Abbev for the Coronation ceremony forms the subject of another excellent picture, and from it the onlooker is able to obtain some idea of tlie enormous preparations made. Many fine dramas and comics further enhance the programme. , When the Theatre was cleared at the close of last night’s entertainment, the picture representing the funeral of Cardinal Moran Avas run through, and this will be screened, in conjunction with the above-mentioned films, tins evening. The sombre proceedings are beautifully photographed, and. the enormous" length of tlie procession m itself expresses a great tribute to the departed prelate. Not only is tlie' procession of church dignitaries, cabinet ministers, members of Parliament, and the people shown, but the finale of the depiction shows the late Cardinal lying in state and the impression produced° is a triumph in the art of photography.
