BRILLIANT OPENING PERFORMANCE. [UNITED PEES I ASSOCIATION-'COPYRIGHT.] (Received Sept. 3. 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. Sept, 3. The Melba Opera Company opened to a- packed and enthusiastic house. The performance was a splendid success, the takings exceeding £l5O0 —a re-cora. People commenced gathering at- seven o'clock in the morning, and soon there was a dense crowd. There was a great rush when the theatre opened at- two o'clock, and the people occupied the time till the performance with impromptu concerts, the theatre aut-hon-ties providing tea.
