THE SHIELD COMPETITION
CIVIL SERVICE WINS THE TROPHY. The final cf the mens’ hockey chiarm pioinship was decided on the Victoria Domain oiu Saturday, when Civil Service melt and defeated West End by one goal to nil. The match wtas hotly contested throughout. and the deciding point was scored by Stagpoo'e for Civil Service, this being the only score registered, Mr M. Doyle was am efficient referee. N.Z. LADIES’ TOURNAMENT. ( CPER PRESS ASSOCIATION.j WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. The New Zealand ladies’ hockey tournament commenced hero yesterday with the following results : Hawke’s Bay beat Canterbury by one goal to nil: Taranaki beat Marlborough by five goals to three. Nelson heat Auckland by two goals to one.. ' ■ Wellington A. beat Canterbury B. by two goals to nil. Wanganui beat Wairanapa by two goals to one. ~ Southland beat Wellington B. by nine goals to nil.
