“BLACK HAND” VENGEANCE.
MAN WHO HAS TO BE LOCKED UP. LIFE NOT” WORTH A MINUTE’S PURCHASE There is in Toronto' just now an Italian, one Griro, of whom the Black Hand will make very short work if he falls into their clutches. Griro lately created a great stir by giving the Toronto, police information that pointed' to the mysterious disappearance of two men from the Italian colony of that city and the suffocation of a third by gas, the circumstances in each case strongly suggesting that the dreaded secret society had been at work.
The police authorities have sinco found it advisable to' place Griro under lock and 'kev 1 for his own protection, for if at liberty his life would not be worth a minute’s purchase. He lias accordingly been confined in the Toronto gaol, whore the precaution, is taken not to allow him to go. into the vfiird when the other prisoners arc exercising there or anywhere near the corridor occupied by the latter. At all times when Griro is out off jus cell an armed guard is within hailing distance. „ The police declare that several men who are suspected of being members of the' Camorra are engaged in. the white slave traffic, and that the Italian headquarters cf tint notorious organisation have sent forth, a world-wide order demanding funds.
