“TERRITORIAL TERRORS.”

GET YOUR HAIR CUT! VOLUNTEER SUBJECTED TO RIDICULE. * (.PER PRESS ASSOCIATIONS AUCKLAND, September 5. Something in the nature of a court-ma-itrailing of members of No. 3 Company of Field Engineers occurred last night, when Captain Shera ordered a member of the company, responsible for an. article appearing in the Star under the heading “Territorial Terrors,” to stand out, and addressed him on the enormity of the offence. He said that the member, who is also a member of the Star reporting staff, had been- responsible for dragging the force into ridicule. He could not walk along the street in uniform without someone advising him to get his hair cut. He explained that it was not the wish of the officers that men should be subjected to a> criminal hair cut. As the result of the publication of this story. Captain- Shorn added, authority had been given for the territorials to wear their hair as they pleased, hut the scheme was only in its primary stages, and they understood this had been said only as a matter of nolicy. He added that Staff-Sergeant- Major Robinson ha<T spoken to the men by Iris (Captain Shera’s) instructions, and wa-s in no way to blame. Captain Shera dismissed the company, except the-reporter, wh-o was called -before the captain, who dictated a statement, which the- reporter hesitated in, signing until he had an opportunity of consuling his employers. Captain Shera insisted. and the- reporter signed a statement- to the effect that he was solely responsible for the article, after which he was allowed to depart.
