THE HOME MARKETS. WOOL, WHEAT, AND OATS. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, Sept. 9. There is a good demand for choicest butter, “which is scarce. There is small inquiry for secondaries, prices for which’ are too high t-o comjiete with margarine. Bacon is firm; Australian about 60s. The Bradford wool market is restricted. Merinos are firm, and crossbreds slow. Sixty-fours, 27-id; super, 27d; common sixties, 26d; fifty-sixes, 21-2 d; fifties, 18Jd; forty-sixes. 15d; fortys, 14|d. The wheat markets are quiet, and buyers are reserved. The tendency is slightly easier on the better political outlook in Eiirope. Two cargoes of Australian sold at 37s 3dl and 36s 9d respectively. Thirteen thousand quarters, expected' in October and November, sold at 37s 3d, holders a slang 37s 9d. South Australian, expected in September and October, is quoted at 36s 6d; New South Wales April shipment, 35s 3d; Australian, on spot, 37s to 37s 6d. There is more inquiry for New Zealand longberry at 365. Oats are firm. Cartons, 21s 6d to 235; sparrowbiils, 21s to 225; La Plata, January-February shipment, 16s 6d! to 16s 9d.
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] . WELLINGTON, Sept. 11. The High Commissioner’s cable, dated London, September 9, states :—“Unless otherwise specified quotations are average market prices on spot: • Mutton market somewhat steadier and demand getting better supplies will bei moderate. Canterbury 4d, North Island 32d. The lamb market is weaker, though not actually lower. Canterbury is at ojd. other than Canterbury sd, Argentina 4|d. The beef market has advanced. Stocks of New Zealand on hand are light. New Zealand hinds 3|d, fores 24 d. The butter market is firm; there is a good demand and supplies are likely to fall off. Australian is at 120 s, Danish 1325, and Siberian 116 s. The cheese market remains firm. Supplies of English will be short on account of the dry weather. New Zealand is at 665. The hemp market is lifeless. Quotations are normal. New Zealand good fair on spot is at £l9 10s, fair grade £ls ss. fair current Manila £2O. RIVER, PLATE SHIPMENTS.
'River Plate shipments of mutton and lamb received during August were: London: Mutton 18,711 carcases, lamb 5764 ;*Liverpool, 172,410' mutton, 116,427 lamb ; Hull, 14,199 mutton, 1000 lamb; Newcastle, 10,984 mutton ; Southampton, 33,470- mutton, 4975 lamb; Cardiff, 5943 mutton, 500 lamb; Ire-' land, 2000 mutton; totals, 257,717 mutton, 128,666 lamb. The totals for August, 1910, were 265,537 mutton, 34,881 lamb.
