The amount of interest taken in the Coronation may be gauged by. the fact that the Press telegrams dispatched from London to the provinces and Foreign countries on Coronation Day amounted to the gigantic total of 847,000 words. On the following day, that of the Royal Progress, 370,000 words were, dispatched at Press rates. Both foreign and provincial messages shared in the increase, which has to be compared with an average daily total of from 150,000 to 200,000. Between 50.000 and 60,000 words were dispatched from the abbey direct by means of the arrangements of chutes and pneumatic tubes. The totals-show a large increase over those recorded at the Coronation of King Edward VII. On Saturday, August 9th, 1902, the day of the Coronation, the Press messages totalled about 500,000 words,. and on the day of the Royal Progress, October 25th about 170,000. M.
