RAIN AT ASHBURTON. [X’EU PRESS ASSOCIATION.} ■ ASHBURTON, Sept. 17. After ia three-quarter inch fall on Wednesday, and intermittent showers during, Saturday night, rain set in again at Ashburton about nine o’clock this morning, and continued steadily throughout the 'day. It will be most beneficial to the country generally, and a good growth of all vegetation will now rapidly take place. At five o’clock there were no signs of cessation. THE PLUNKET MEDAL, WELLINGTON, Sept. 17. The annual competition for the Plunket. Medal in connection with Victoria College Debating Society was held last night. There were eight competitors and: the medal was won by P. G. HallJones, son of Sir Wm\ Hall-’Jones, the High Commissioner. Sir Joseph Ward, tlie Prime Minister, made the presentation of the medal to the winner.
