June, 1911, broke all previous records in Alameda county as the marriage month, and Cupid played havoc with the usual percentage maintained there between the altar and the divorce court. Marriage licenses were issued, accord-, ing to the statistics of the County Clerk’s office, at the rate of eleven and a half per day for every office day or June, counting Saturdays, when tne doors close at noon. The Vital number of marriage licenses issued was 29a, the largest number for any one montn disclosed by the records. . , Against these figures, the imp that presides over the divorce courts maae a very sorry showing. Forty final <iecrees of divorce were granted, more than seven launchings to one mat-r - monial shipwreck. ,' „ Junes of past years have shown a percentage between marriages ami oevorces of about, five to one, ana tor past years the percentage has been nearer four one one. Spme months percentage has been as high as tnr to one, such a ratio, however, coming only during viiMJnths not looked upo with favor by brides. • Cruelty formed the ground for divorce in the majority of decrees granted last month, desertion coming second and wilful neglect third. Two divorces were for infidelity and one because the defendant husband had been convicted of felony. *
