COMMAND ANT ON MILITARY TRAINING.

General Godley, in an address on defence matters, said that drills would be held in the evening, and the parades would: mean that a man would l have to give up half, a dozen holidays in the year. The only thing that would' present any difficulty would be a week’s camp. That would be arranged for a convenient time, and that was where employers could come in with help.. The general said there was an extraordinary amount of misunderstanding over this matter, but he contended that training was a sine qua non, and unless comr rades were trained together, compulsory training would be a farce. ADULTERATED' MILK. WANGANUI, Sept. 20. At the Magistrate’s Court this morning, James McKenzie was fined £5 for selling to a factory milk which contained'. 9 per cent, more water than allowed by the .regulations. TWO LIBEL ACTIONS. GREYMOUTH, Sept. .20. The libel action A. C. Russell (Mayor) v. Grey River Argus Company, Ltd., was heard at the Supreme Court yesterday. The plaintiff claimed £IOOO damages. There were four counts. Trie jury returned a verdict in favor of defendant on two 1 counts, and for plaintiff for one shilling in one count and £lO in the other. In the case Ellison v. Dispatch Foundry, claim £IOOO damages, for the death of plaintiff’s son by accident while employed by the defendant company, Mr Egan, on behalf of the company, agreed to pay £4OO, and judgment was entered up for that amount accordingly.
