LIEUT.-COL. HAWKINS. tPEB PRESS ASSOCIATION t l CHRISTCHURCH Sept. 21. & Lieutenant-Colonel Hawkins, officer commanding the Canterbury district, died suddenly on the Skirley golf links this afternoon from heart trouble. He was: playing a game with a friend when ho fell, and was found to be dead. [Lieut.-Colonel Hawkins succeeded Lieut. Colonel Bauoho.p as officer commanding the Canterbury district some five years ago. Prior to that he was manager of the municipal gasworks in Invercargill. He leaves a widow' and a young family.] MR- F. R- FLATMAN. TIMARU, Sept. 21. Mr F. R. Platman, ex-M.P. for Geraldine, died to-day. He was a very old settler in the district, arriving in 1862. He was occupied in sawmilling and! stock keeping from 1865 to 1892, and subsequently in farming, and he represented Geraldine in four Parliaments. He served on most of the local bodies, including the Timaru and Gladstone Board of Works, and the Timaru Harbor Board. SIR ROBERT HART.
