FOR INDUSTRIAL PEACE.
AN EMPLOYER’S SOUND ADVICE.
“STRANGLING GRIP OF CAUCUS IRRESPONSIBLES.”
[UNITED PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.] (Received Sept. 22, 9.50 p.m.) SYDNEY. Sept. 22. At a meeting of the Employers’ Federation, the retiring president, in his address, said that the present year as regards strike unrest, stands ' alone. The whole industrial life of the Commonwealth was in a state of seething unrest, and it was hardly possible to realise the unhappy position in which employer and employee stand. The word “freedom” is almost unknown as far as the employer is concerned, and until the employers are more true to themselves and shake off' the chain of selfishness, the present unfortunate disruption would continue. There m'ust he for the first protecting rights- without being unduly aggressive, and something should be done to- separate 1 the political element from trades unionism. To ensure prosperity and happiness the country must be freed frm the strangling grip of caucus irresponsihles who at the present time are framing laws and dictating to their representatives what they wish done, thus preventing good equitable laws from being enacted. The annual -report referred to the need; for organisation in order to meet the organising work of the labor agitator, and adversely criticised the provisions of the Industrial Arbitration Bill as likely to work most injuriously, not only against the employer, but aoainst the interests of industrial neaoe.
