MANY MINISTERS DEFEATED.
SWEEPING CONSERVATIVE GAINS.
LATEST RETURNS TO HAND [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.] (Received Sept. 22, 6.30 p.m.) OTTAWA. Sept. 21. All tlie Ministers, excepting the Hon. Win. Puigsley (Minister for Public Works), Sir Wilfrid Laurier (the Premier), and the Hon. Frank Oliver (Minister for the -Interior) have been defeated. There have been sweeping Conservative gains in British Colombia. AH the Conservatives and twelve Nationalists have been returned in Quebec. The Hon. Wm. Templeman (Minister for Inland Revenue and Mines) was defeated in Victoria. (Received Sept. 22, 10.50 -.-m.) A number of election results are still to come to hand, but the' latest figures available are:— Conservatives 113 Independents 12 Liberals 88
PREMIER LIKELY TO RETIRE.
PROMISES THAT PROFITED NOTHING. DISAPPOINTMENT IN UNITED STATES. (Received Sept. 23, 12.30 a.m.) OTTAWA, Sept. 22. A signficaut feature of the elections was the defeat of the Ministers, despite lavish promises being made' in the various cities that great public works would be undertaken if the. Ministers were victorious.
Sir Wilfrid Laurier is unwilling to lead the Opposition in the new House, and his retirement is practically decided'.
Great disanpointment is felt in the United States at the result of the election.
