WELLINGTON, Sept. 24, A deputation of members of the Feather stone County Council and the Martinborough Town Board was inti duced by Mr. W. C. Buchanan, M.P., to-the Minister of Public Works on Saturday afternoon. The object was io ask that the Featherstone to Marti aborough railway be included in the Railways Authorisation Bill, whi ih, it was understood would be laid before Parliament this session. Assistance v as also asked from the Government for the completion, of the bridge, which was the main outlet for Martinborough. The Minister replied that the Government was strictly limited as to the amount of money available for railway construction. He realised that t:ie district was an excellent one, and capable of great development, hut'doubted \cvy much whether any branch railways would be authorised this session. '] 1 o matter would be placed before Cabinet, and it would receive me same coast 1eration as others. The bridge question was settled long ago. The district insisted on lengthening the bridge and adding to the cost to an extent ihe Government regarded as unnecessary. If they wanted luxuries they must p-»v for them. They could spend .vs much money as they liked, but would get no more‘from the Government.
