LATE COLONEL HAWKINS.

THE FUNERAL CEREMONIAL. tPEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.! CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 23. The funeral of the late Colonel Hawkins took place' this afternoon at the Papanui cemetery. The funeral was essentially a military one, and was attended by a large muster of territorials and volunteers. General Gcdley and members of the headquarters staff were also present. The service at the graveside was conducted by Chaplain-Captain Bean, at the close of which a volley was fired, and' the “Last Pest” sounded. The funeral aroused much interest, _ and large crowds of the public lined either side of Papanui Road to watch the cortege pass.
