DECLINED BY A MAGISTRATE
Tlie West Ham (England), magistrate declined to accept evidence by telephone the other day.
When Henry Preston, a carman, was charged with being drunk in charge of two horses, he said a Mr. Woodcock, from whom he had borrowed a lamp, could disprove the allegation. The Clerk: Is he here ?
Preston : No; he says he will be obliged if you .will speak to him on the telephone. He is very busy today. The Magistrate : We can’t take evidence on the telephone. Pay 10s., or seven days.
