A GRUESOME DISCOVERY.
ECHO OF MARINE DISASTER. WRECK OF THE BELL FLOWER. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 26. A body supposed to be that of Capt. McDowell, of the Bell Flower; which was wrecked off Banks Peninsula on July 24,. was found on Saturday by one of the Kinlocli settlers. The body, which was in an advanced state of decomposition and minus the head and one arm, was washed up on the beach in Tumbledown "Bay—the scene of the wreck. It is surmised ‘ the body- had l been pinned under the wreckage, which was washed into a small cave, and the continual washing of the sea had released it. Constable Whatman, of .Little River, went over on Sunday morning and, with Mr J. McQueen, of Kinloch, buried the late Captain’s body close to the scene of the wreck.
