LANDS OF THE DOMINION.
AN INTERESTING RETURN
(From our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, ’Sept. 28. A return presented to the House of Representatives this afternoon shows that on Nlarch 31st,’ 1910, the freehold' lands, exclusive of those in boroughs and townships, totalled' 19,575,281 acres, which Avere held by 46,922 persons. The improved, or capital value Avas £119,097,455, ancl the unimproved value £85,111,019. The largest class was that of freeholds of from 100 to 200 acres, which Avere held by 8865 OAvners,. their lots totalling 1,239,932 acres.. The largest area in any class Avas 2,487,571 acres, Avhich AA-ere held by 1748 OAvners in blocks of from 1000 to 2000 acres. Two persons only occupied freeholds exceeding 75,000 acres, their total property being 166,906 acres. Tlie capital valuation of all lands in the Dominion in 1910 was 278,000,000, and the unimproved value Avas £175,000,000. In 1878 the capital valuation of all lands Avas £100,000,000, and the unimproved valuation was £6,000,000, so that in thirty-tAvo years the value of. the AA’iorkable surface of New Zealand lias been nearly trebled.
