The contest for the Egmont seat between Mr Dive, and the- Jlnnster for Agriculture, promises to be a vc ; ry , , 3n ~ teresting one. It is understood tnat the Prime Minister will be asked to give an address in favor of the Government candidate, arid the Leader of the Opposition will, in all probability, also make his appearance on the Egmont Platforms. He to-day received a requisition bearing a very large number or signatures from the district and couched in tho following words: "We. tho undersigned electors of the Egmont electorate, respectfully request that you will take an early opportunity of delivering a political address in Mana-ia. We strongly feel that, at the present moment, it is a matter of the highest importance that tho people should understand thoroughly the issues on which they will soon be called upon to record their opinions, and that it is only by the fullest and freest discussion that sound and enlightened conclusions can be arrived at, and the true interests of our country most effectually served. We, therefore, hope you will give us the benefit of your views on those questions now appealing for treatment at- the hands of the Legislature, and thus add another to the many services you liave at an expenditure of much time and labor, patriotically rendered to the country."
