THE HERO OF SANTIAGO.
ADMIRAL SCHLEY DROPS DEAD. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. NEW YORK, Oct. 2. Rear-Admiral Schley, of the United States Navy, who was prominent in the Spanish-American War, dropped dead in a club in New York. Rear-Admiral Schley sank Admiral Cerveras’ fleet in Santiago Harbor in July, 1898. He was born in Maryland in 1839. served through the Civil War, .and in the Pacific, China, Japan, Corea, West Coast of Africa and South America. In 1884 he commanded the expedition to the Arctic which rescued Lieut. Grely.
