MONTHLY MEETING. WAIPIRO, Oct, 3At the monthly meeting of the Waiapu County Council, there "were present: Crs K. 8. Williams (chairman), T. S. Williams, Heald, Ivnox, A. B. Williams, and Murphy. Correspondence was received' and dealt with as follows : South British Insurance Company re insurance of surfacemen-—Received. An application for the transfer of a slaughterhouse license from Tai Matehe to Tirinau.—Approved. From the Inspector of Quarries, enclosing a circular re stone quarries, and drawing attention to the provisions of the same—The Chairman moved, and Cr. T. S. Williams seconded, that a reply be sent that the Council had no quarries.—Carried. / From the Defence Department, thanking the Council for the offer of assistance.—Received. From Mr. A. H. Wallis, defining the districts over which the proposed, loan would be raised.—The Chairman moved, and Cr. Heald seconded, that Mr., Wallis be written to and informed that the Council prefer to postpone . the-matter until Cr. Sherwood’s return; also to give the staff more time to prepare a statemen t,—Carried. From the Department of Public Works, forwarding plans of ‘the Waiapu river bridge, asking whether the Council intends to adopt the plan.— The Chairman moved and Cr. T. S. Williams seconded, that the plans be adopted, and the engineer instructed to communicate with the Public Works Department, and take the necessary steps to call for tenders "for the construction of the bridge. Carried. From Mr. R. W. Kemp, stating that an extensive subsidence had occurred on his road—Cr. A. B. Williams moved, and Cr. Murphy seconded, that Mr. Kemp be written to and told 1 that the matter was under consideration; it would be borne in mind to attend to the matter as soon as the Council can conveniently do so.—Carried. It was. agreed that bridge tenders he called in the following centres: Wei-, lington, • Auckland, Napier, and Gisborne. The Engineer’s report was read and considered. Cr. A. B. Williams moved, and the Chairman seconded, that the Freezing Works Company and Bull Bros- be writ-, ten. to and told that the Council stronigly. object to their taking stone and shingle from the beach.—CarriedCr.
