Constantinople correspondents, on the authority of prominent Turkish statesmen, say that while Germany recommends Turkey t-o take the ultimaturn as the basis of peace, Britain proposes that Tripoli shall become a privileged tributary of A ilayet, under Turco-Italian administration, while preserving the Sultan’s suzerainty. It is alleged that British diplomacy is sub rosa, urging Turkey to a vigorous resistance, and that if Italy refuses Britain will intervene sharply. TURKS’ VALIANT RESISTANCE. FURTHER BOMBARDMENTS COMMENCED. CONSTANTINOPLE, Oct, 6. The bombardment of Benghazi and Derna has begun, and tlie Turks are making a valiant resistance. The firing was heard at the Gulf of Saros, north of the Dardanelles. Italian searchlights have been seen at Mitylene. ON THE FRONTIER. GRECIAN RESERVES CALLED OUT ATHENS, Oct, 6. Eleven classes of reserves have been called out to do duty on the Turkish frontier, owing to further Turkish concentration. CORFU, Oct. 6. A telegram states that the Italian ultimatum in regard to Preveza has been withdrawn. ALLEGED BREACH OF NEUTRALITY. A PROTEST FROM ITALY. CONSTANTINOPLE, Oct. 5. Hie Turkish fleet has arrived m the Bosphorus. CAIRO, October o. Italy has protested to the Governor of the Suez Canal against the continued presence at Port Said of the Turkish transport Kaiser, which Italy claims is a breach of tlie neutrality of the canal. . BERLIN, October 5. The Anglophobe press accept the Graphic’s statement that Sir Edward Grey was aware in August that Italy was advancing claims to Tripoli, llie Post declares that England and France consented, in order to emliarrass Germany with Italy and Tnrkey. ROME, October 5. Sixty transports are ready to depart f with the four army corps authorised. It is intended to subdue the country i, rapidly with an overwhelming force.
