ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
SUDDEN DEATH. (Per Press Association.) FEILDING, Oct. 10. A most distressing occurrence took place liere this morning, when Mr A. It. Mayo, a leading orcihardist of the district, dropped dead. It was not known , that he had the- slightest organic trouble of any 'kind. He always looked healthy and well, and was of a very jolly disposition, but after milking a cow this morning he fell down. He was picked up dead. The cause is attributed to heart disease. Mr Mayo was onto of the. most useful citizens of the. district. Within a. few years he had converted his Crown lease at Aoranigi into a model orchard, which was so beautifully kept that no distinguished visitor was ever allowed to. leave the district without, seeing Mr Mayo’s orchard. His knowledge, of fruit growing, horticulture and farming generally was profound, and lie was most willing to. give others the benefit cf it. He was Wellknown as a, judge at flower shows and school gardens, and was a prominent member of the Fcilding A- and P. Association. Pie was serving a second year as chairman: of the Feilding branch, of the. Farmers’ Union.. He was also a. Free Mason. llis death will be a severe personal and intrinsic less to the district. He was between 40 and 50 years of age. He was horn in the Auckland district, wher, e he snout his boyhood. After living some years at Palmerston lie came to Acrangi ten years ago. He leaves a. wife, and a. family of small children. FATAL COLLISION WITH TAXI. AUCKLAND, Oct. 10. Charles Goldsmith, a single man, between the age of 40 and 45, employed as a gardener, believed to have recently come from Napier, was killed almost instantly last night as the result of being knocked down by a mot'cr-car. Goldsmith alighted from a tram and went round the back, when lie was knocked over b— a taxi-cab driven by John Mercer. DROWNED WHILE BATHING. WESTPORT, Oct. 10. Victor Sibreo, aged 13, was drowned in a mill at Milton, while bathing THE BLASTING FATALITY. The body of a victim cf the recent blasting accident was found in the Buller river half a mile below the scene of the accident this morning. The head was missing. A SUDDEN END. James Condon, a passenger by the A ralni ra. from Grey mouth, died on board as the vessel was leaving Westport this morning. A FATAL FALL. DUNEDIN, Oct. 10. Charles John Ayers aged 28 years, who met with an accident at Hudson’s biscuit factory on September 21st, died in the hospital to-day. V bile Ayers was on a ladder making alterations to a pulley, one of the rungs broke, and he fell some loft to the ground, striking the edge of the trolley, and severely lacerating his abdomen. He had sufficiently recovered to be able to get out in the hospital grounds, but two days ago lie took a turn for worse.
