WORTH v. SOUTH ISLAND. COMMENTS ON THE GAME. Dealing with the recent North v ; South Island match, the ‘•Dominion 68 Generally speaking the play was of a ragged description, with occasional flashes of individual b.ntocy and it could not compare iwth a couple of til previous intcr-is and matches seen on the same ground A large, number of the players seemed to be sadly out of condition, and were inclined to nurse themselves on tho hand ground Tin* was especially noticeable towards Ho end cf the match. The South Island men were favourites at tl;o start, but, though they opened the • scoring account, their opponents soon took the lead and maintained it till the finish. For all that, the South team did the maior portion of the attacking, but illfortune seemed to attend all their attempts at scoring in the second spell. Three times, at least, they mussed tries bv the narrowest possible margin'. On the North side, Downing stood out as the best forward on the ground, hut there is room for a l'ot of improvement ini his play. Wilson, Desmond, and Yoking were the host of tlio others. On. the wing, Coleman did nob show nnv superiority over his opponent —-Murray—who played a fine, dashing game. Of the North Ida ml backs Ivaipara nlaved the Soundest game, win Ip Hyland o-ave the impression that, if he were playing in one of the large centres, he would develop into a brilliant scoring three-quafter. Ivinvig’s line-kicking was very weak. Roberts was below form, and Brown was of little or no use to his side at balf-bae'k. Hassell played a capital game in the South vanguard, while Burns was the best of their backs Green was disappointing at half, ana Guthrie at wing-threeqnaiter almost invariably threw awn v his bv wild passing. Srntt, at bark, did some great line-kicking, but. on two occasions, at all events, he was slow at tackling. A noticeable feature of the o-ame was that both centre-threequai-ters (Grace and Lynch) snored tries by running almost from lialf-nay.
