TINSMITHS’ AND METAL-WORK-ERS’ CASE. GISBORNE FIRMS WANT EXEMPTION. . [.SPECIAL TO TIMES. 3 AUCKLAND, Oct, 10. When the tinsmiths’ and nietalAvcrkers’ dispute Avas called on before the Conciliation Council to-day, a. number of Gisborne firms asked to be exempted. The Commissioner remarked that he did not quite understand the position •with regard to Gisborne, The. butchers and some other trades had: beem struck out of awards by the Court, and in some cases firms had been joined. The Union representative pointed out that though plumbers at Gisborne did not compete Avith Aucklaiml shops, the metal-AVorkers did, and be instanced a £6OO contract for pans that bad recently been taken up in Gisborne. ' The Council declined to exempt Gisborne, and decided to refer the matter to- the Court of Arbitration.
