OLD SOLDIERS’ CLAIMS.

INTENTIONS OF THE GOVERNMENT. (From our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 12. A brief statement regarding the provision which the Government intends to make this session for the recognition. of services rendered to the Dominion by the war veterans was made by the Prime Minister in the House of Representatives this afternoon. Mr. Luke (Wellington Suburbs) asked whether legislation would be enacted this session to deal with the matter, and Sir J. Ward replied that in the ordinary course all the petitions would come before them, and they would be carefully considered, with a view to making provision on the Supplementary Estimates. The Government proposed to deal with those petitions upon which magisterial reports had been obtained, but he could not say whether the Government would go beyond these petitions.
