SOCIAL AND GENERAL NEWS. The engagement is announced of Miss Elsie MeFnriane, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs MoFarlane, of Clive Grange Station, to, Dr. Raymond, ref cently from England. Miss Elsie McFarlane was recently on a visit hero. Mrs C. Buscke gave a d’oyley afternoon for Miss D. Chrisp at Miss Brown’s tearooms on Mondays last. Some of those present were Mrs A. Williams (Napier), cream costume, grey hat, with cerise trimming. Miss Town ley, pink, black and white hat. Mrs J. Town ley, black figured voile, black bonnett. Mrs Emith (Nailer), green frock, green and black hat. Mrs Cuthbert, brown costume, black hat. Mrs Ruby, black eharmeuse, blue floral chiffon hat; Mrs A. Coleman, Mrs T. Adams, Mrs Kinder, Miss Taylor, Mrs E. J. Chrisp, black voile, -brown hat; Miss McCredie, white muslin, hat of same. ■■ Miss Wallis (Auckland) white muslin, brown hat with cerise flowers; Misses Crawfords (2). Mesdames E. Adair, Barton (2). Mrs O. Buscke received her guests in a grey coat and skirt and smart grey hat,'turned off tlie face. Mr G. D. Portus, well-known in theatrical circles and in Gisborne, was married at'St. . James’ Church, Sydney, last week to Mrs Maxwell, widow' of the late Mr Max Maxwell, actor. Mr and Mrs W. A. Bowring, who left here on Sunday last, are at present in Napier. The Christchurch Press announces the engagement of Miss Eileen Bruce, youngest daughter of Mi's W. J. Bruce, Christchurch, to Mr F. D. Jameson, of Hastings, Hawke’s Bay. Nurse Wi Repa, who recently resigned from the Napier Hospital staff, intends coming to reside in Gisborne. A wedding took place at St. James’s Church, King Street, Sydney, on September 26th, when Margaret Constance, only daughter'of Mr and Mrs J. G. Douglas, of “Simla,” Victoria Street, Potts Point, ivas married to Air Alfred Why ton Staite, of Gisborne, New Zealand. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Wentworth Shields, and the bride wore a white silk frock, with lovely old lace, and carried a. loose bunch of arum lilies. The bridesmaid was Miss Leila Benson, who wore white voile and lace. Mr Allman presided at the organ. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride’s parents. Mr Williamson, nephew of Mr E. J. Chrisp, arrived from England on Wednesday, intending to take up farming in this district.
