FATAL TRAIN ACCIDENT.
DRAGGED 250 YARDS

On Saturday as the north train was leaving Winchester at 5.50 a fatal accident occurred there. Archibald Carter, about 24 or 25, being run over and killed. No one saw how the accident occurred', whether he fell off the board, or whether be fell against the side of the platform and was drawn under. TIMARU, Oct. 23.
The evidence taken at the inquest on Archibald Carter, aged 26, ‘killed on the railway at Winchester on Saturday night "showed that deceased was verydrunk when he got off the train at the station. He was seen standing near the train. No one saw how the accident happened, but apparently he fell between the car and the platform, and his clothing caught some projection on the guard’s van, and lie was dragged 250 yards over a cattle stop. He then fell clear, and was badilv cut and bruised, and his skull fractured. He died in a. few minutes. The inquest is unfinished-
