OCCUPATION OF BENGHAZI.

CONFLICTING REPORTS.

TURKEY NEEDS ALLIANCES

(United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received October 23, 10.45 p.m.) TRIPOLI, Oct. 23.

Conflicting reports as to the occupation of Benghazi make it uncertain whether full possession has yet seen taken. The Arabs, well armed, are fiercely resisting. It is reported that Arabs butchered a number of Christians prior to Ibe Italians landing. CONSTANTINOPLE, Oct. 23.

Owing to Turkish lighthouses in the Red Sea being in darkness Britain has proposed to the Porte the neutralisation of the waterway, The Porte is favorably inclined, but wishes to reserve the right against the transport of troops.

Turkey’s admission to one of the European alliances is the subject of much European newspapers’ discussion. The Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente are mentioned as in the terms, without much basis, beyond the Vizier’s allusion to Turkey’s need for alliances. The latest suggestion is an Anglo-Russo -Turkish combination.
