A DANGER TO THE COUNTRY.
PROFESSIONAL POLITICIANS
film ted Press Association —Copyright.) (.tinned LONDON, Oct. 21.
Lord Dudley, speaking at Worcester, said that it would be dangerous for the country if the House of Commons^ possessed' professional politicians. There \v£is some likelihood of this unless efectors were careful. The colonies were mare engaged in money-making than the Australians made a creator number of professional politicians, which was hardly good for the Commonwealth. While England might follow the energetic colonies m many thino-s, lie hoped that she would never do so in this respect. Some very democratic States had a body of politicians existing solely on Parliamentary stipends. The “Westminster Gazette” says that if Lord Dudley had given utterances to such opinions during Ins term in the Commonwealth of Australia, Ins governorship would have been brief.
