The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. WEDNESDAY. OCTOBER 25, 1911.

Once again that ever welcome occasion, People’s Day” in connectioni with the Show under the auspice* of the local Agricultural and Pastc-raii Association, has come round. There is of course-, no other day of the year in this, as in many other centres which can compare with the accord day of such an important fixture. On ‘‘People’s Day”-—as it is designated—one would, indeed, be greatly disappointed, nowadays, if one did not find at the Show an assemblage which in point of numbers eclipses teat in regard to any other event in the district for the twelve- months.' Young and old, grave and gay—ail have come to regard it almost a duty to attend the annual exhibition of the best in- rstock and product* which the distiiet is able to display- And rightly so. 1 ndoultcdly there always is m-ueh at exhibitions of the hind which not xi y proves interesting but also instructive to visitors no matter what may be their station in life. But “People’s D.iv” also serve- a further useful purpose, in that it provides the bc'st opportunity of the year for the making of, and the renewed of, friendships between tin residents of the country districts and the townsfolk. To-day, when one and another meet, they will, generally speaking, have it it is very pleasing to note, a cheering record of health and material prosperity to unfold. So much as regards the numerous visitors who will be found at the Park to-day. Now for a few words as to the Show itself. Though the total number of ent:ie ; does not amount to a record, tb-. classes, with a few exceptions, are well filled. Furthermore. it is the opinion oi these who are in a position to speak with authority that the quality of the exhibits, whether animate or inanimate, is for the most part of a high standard. Thus it comes about that even quite apart from all sentimental grounds the Show is itself well worth inspection. Ad that is needed to ensure a highly satisfactory attendance is reasonably fine weather and a* we go to press this seemed to tie assured.

‘People’s Day.’
