240 GRAVES ON FIRE.
A GRUESOME FLARE. A remarkable fire raged recently in on© of the comedones on the outskirts of Berlin. No fewer than 240 graves were ablaze at one time. 'the fire brigade had to drench the tombs to prevent the whole cemetery from being l:ui ned. German graves are built up two or three feet high, the portion above the ground being a mass of shrubbery and plants. The hot weather had made the vines and flowers on the graves very dry and highly combustible. Fire having broken out in ail adjacent- timber yard, the sparks iiew into the cemetery, and within five minutes hundreds of graves were ablaze and crackling, and wooden crosses and other inflammable' material were quickly destroyed.
