DIVA SMOTHERED WITH FLOWERS.

There was a great*and enthusiastic gathering at His Majesty’s Theatre at Madame Melba’s farewell performance. The diva was smothered with flowers, pelted from all parts of the house. During the interval the Lord Mayor presented a citizens’ address to Madame Melba, appreciative of her patriotic and unselfish labor in presenting Australia with grand opera on a scale worthy of the great works performed. He intimated that later she would be presented with a valuable piece of plato, subscribed by the citizens.
