A BUSY CRACKSMAN.

GUILTY OF 17 CHARGES. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 26. A young man named Walter Henry Alarsden, described as a laborer, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court, before Air W. G. Riddell, S.AL, to 17 charges of breaking and entering in Wellington and Palmerston North during the months of September and October. The premises entered m Wellington we He those of Frederick Augustine ALiughan, Ambrose H. Port, William H. P. Barber, James Smith and Son, and Albert L. Bennett, a l .! of Cuba street; Sarah Agatha Jacobsen, Riddiford street' Mary Ann Hill, Holland street; and Herbert A\ iUiam Preston, Abraham Berman, and William L. Lankshear, Lambton Quay. A sum of £8 5s 4d was stolen from Air Barber’s shop, and goods and money of a total value- of £l4 were taken rrom the premises of F. A. Vaughan, S A. Jacobsdn, A. L. Bennett, M. A. Hill, A. Berman, and W. J. Lankshear. Accused was disturbed at the other places and obtained nothing. At Palmerston North the premises of Arthur De Luen, the Westport Coal Co., Ravenhill and Go., Frederick Alowlem, William R. Richardson, and Andrew Logan were entered and money and goods to the value of £2B 15s taken. Chief Detective' Broberg conducted the case for the police. Evidence as to the nature of the offences and identification of the stolen goods was given by 19 witnesses and Detectives Rawle and Cameron, who arrested accused, and Detective Quirk also gave evidence. lo Detectives Rawle and Cameron accused, who only arrived in Wellington from Bunnythorpe iri September, made statements admitting eacli offence. Some of the stolen property was recovered by the police at accused s lodgings and from pawnbrokers, hut no money was recovered. Accused was remanded to the Supreme Court for sentence.
