RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES

CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 28

The heavy rain which fell last night rendered the plough track at Riccarton unfit for work, and all gallops were accomplished on the grass and tan tracks. The weather at 5 o’clock was cold, but fine, and very little wind was blowing. Dazzling and Colleen Mary were first out, and they covered five furlongs in lmin 4-ssec. Masterpiece and Counterfeit were next sent over a mile and a quarter, which they accounted for in 2 min 16 4-ssec, Outlander running the same distance in 2min 21 2-ssec- Rose Noble easily beat Miss Fry in a mile gallop, which took lmin 49sec to complete; and Alexis and Ideality left five furlongs behind in lmin 7 2-ssec. Madam Madcap and Countermine registered a good performance by running six furlongs in lmin 17sec, and Crosbie beat Sea King over the same distance, taking lmin 20sec to complete the journey. Milo was given a good working gallop, and Oratava and Battalion sprinted over six furlongs in lmin 20 4-ssec. .Nithsdale and Avarice were companions in a mile gallop, which occupied lmin 48 3-ssec, and Nyland galloped once round at a good pace. Bliss was responsible for leaving six furlongs behind in lmin 20 sec, and Master Paul did a useful gallop. Tannhauser and Cronstadt 4eft a mile and a quarter behind in 2min 20 sec, the former finishing in front. Los Angelos ivas next sent for a mile and a half gallop, and moving well cut out the distance in 2min 43sec, the first mile taking lmin 49sec to complete. Heather Brae ran five furlongs in lmin 6 l-ssec, and Hawick did schooling task over eight flights of hurdles. Flambeau got to the end of seven furlongs in lmin 35sec, Pilgrim’s Way taking lmin 33sec for the same distance. Gipsy Belle’s task was a gallop over five furlongs, which she accomplished in lmin 6 3-ssec, and Mere easily beat Foam Plate over the same distance in lmin 6 3-ssec. Kilostere had the better of Bronze at the end of a mile, which was left behind in lmin 53sec, and Coroniform and Query got to the end of the same distance in lmin 46sec —a good performance. The Cornet easily lieat North Pole in a five furlongs sprint, which occupied lmin 5 4-ssec, and Pert ran nine furlongs in 2min 6sec. Genius

and St. Aidan galloped a mile in lmin 51sec, and Eormby and Miscount left six furlongs behind in- good style. Dearest spurted down the straight, and Oka and another strode over four furlongs in 52 2-ssec, a task that Eaglestone and Rock Ferry completed in 53 4-ssec. Martino, | Goldfinder. and Prim were then sent for a mile and a half gallop, and reeled off the first mile in 52 4-ssec, six furlongs in j lmin 20 l-ssee, and a mile in lmin 49sec, and completed the distance in 2min 44 sec. The New Zealand Cup candidates finished their task together, but Prim seemed to finish just a trifle better than the other two. Outward, Ainsdale, and Morecambe ran six furlong's in lmin 20 sec, and All Guns sprinted four furlongs in lmin 35sec, while Amalgam took lmin 8 3-ssec to cover five furlongs. Expansion ran four furlongs up the back in 54' l-ssec, and St. Felix ran the last five of six furlongs in lmin 7 2-ssec, while Merrie Frank did a working gallop. A large number of others were given light tasks, including the majority of the horses that arrived yesterday. The courso proper was thrown open for two-year-olds, and the following were among those worked: Autumnus, Winning Way, Glade, Bandore, Athenic. Anna Carlovena, Editha, and May Dalrymple. After breakfast; Floater was sent twice round at half pace, and Kilts beat Armstrong over six furlongs in lmin 22sec. Kris left a mile behind in lmin 49sec, and True Knight and Gold Pin took lmin 50sec to run the same distance. Palsettia sprinted three furlongs in 38sec, and Topaz did a working gallop. Frivoletti and Passion together ran five furlongs in lmin ssec, and Bonny Glen by himself covered six furlongs in lmin 19 3-ssec. Full Rate galloped half a milo in 52sec, and Pleasure Bent, Kimona, and Ancilla went a furlong further in lmin ssec. Hohungatahi ran five furlongs in lmin ssec, a distance which Early Morn left behind in lmin Ssec. Fisticuff and Paisley together ran seven furlongs in lmin 36sec, while Gasoline and another sprinted up the back. From a barrier start Peppm and Art got to tho end of four furlongs on the course proper in 52 l-ssec, while Quarantine, Scottish Star, and Glenfinnan took 50sec. Pawky Lass, Northern Light, and Bonitas took 53sec and Bon Soir, Bon Ton, and Peroneal 51sec to complete the same distance. The other two-year-olds that were exercised at tho barrier included Marcia, Nyx. Fegbrown. Owl. Taffeta, Lady Georgia, Canute, and Teviotale. Nightlight galloped a milo and a half in 2min 47 4-ssec. She was assisted by Sapience over the first six furlongs and by Koliinoor over the remainder of the journey. Nova was exercised over several flights of hurdles, while Corry ran five furlongs in lmin Ssec.

Lady Medallist nine furiongs in lmin 59sec, Jacamar and Piastre ten furlongs in 2min 14sec, Trafalgar fourteen furlongs in 3min 17sec, Flaith eleven furlongs in 2min 34see, Flavian twelve furlongs in 2miu 47sec. Adgio eight furlongs in lmin 50isec. Duke Foot ten furlongs in 2min 15sec, Woad and Ladies’ Man beat Crown Grant over ten furlongs in 2min 17sec, Wiliarai and Plialio eight furlongs in lmin 49sec, Pasio ten furlongs in 2mm 17vsec, Flue fourteen furlongs in Bmin 12sec, Diabolo eight furlongs in lmin 56 sec, Comedy King twelve furlongs in 2 min 41isec.
