ETHEL TURNER.
SOME ATTRACTIVE STORIES
The extensive reading public, both young and old, of Ethel Turner (Mrs. H. It. Curlevvis) will greet with pleasure the announcement of another book by this talented authoress. ■; Phis is entitled “An Ogre JTp-to-date,” and consists of a series of short stories, which make agreeable reading for adults as well as children. Ever since ‘'Seven Little Australians” was launched on the world Miss Ethel Turner has had an appreciative circle of readers, and perhaps no Australasian writer is so well known. “An Ogre Up-to-date,” the first story of the new volume, is a delightful tale of a little girl reconciled to her stepfather through the aid of a witch’s power, and other stories of a similar nature are “A Trembling Star,” “Court of Entertainers, etc.,” while some clever verse includes “The Butcher and the'Buccaneer,” “Johnnie and I Are Out,” etc. _ The book is profusely illustrated, both in color and black and white, by well-known Australian artists, and makes an acceptable presentation volume. The publishers are Ward, t Lock, and Co., London, and T. Adams, Gisborne, from whom our copy came.
