AN OLD CLAIM.
FROM BOXER FUND
(United Press Association—Copyright*.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 1. The House Committee has opened an inquiry regarding the connection of the ex-Secretary of State, Mr Foster, and Mr E. H. Conger, . late Minister for China, with the payment of £70,000 sterling to the heirs of General Ward, killed in the Chinese rebellion of 1862. The money, it is alleged, came out of the Boxer indemnity fund. It is stated that great influence was brought to bear on Prince Ching to allow a forty years’ old claim to be paid from a recentlycreated fund.
