THE TURF.
FINAL GALLOPS AT RICCARTON,
[.special to Times.j CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 2. A large crowd was present at Riccarton this morning to witness the final gallops of horses engaged at the Cup meeting. The weather was beautifully line, and as the plough track had been watered durin" the night the conditions were all m favor of fast time making, and some interesting work resulted. Tannhauser was first out, but only did half paco work. Medallist ran five furlongs m Imm 5 4-5 sec, and Effort and Ebonite covered the same distance in lmin 3 4-ssec. Ermengarde on the grass went four furlongs m 50 l-ssec, and Dazzling easily beat Colleen Mary over five furlongs m Imm 3 2-ssec. Prim was responsible for a mile and a half gallop, which she accomplished in 2min 42 3-ssec. She went very well throughout, and covered the last halfmile in 53 l-ssec. Masterpiece and Counterfeit were companions in a mile and a quarter gallop, which they accounted for in 2min 14sec. The former liad all the worst of the weights, but held the filly safe at the finish. Martin put up a nice performance by getting to the end of a mile and a half in 2min 41 l-ssec, finishing well. Hawick and Espartero together ran a mile and a quarter in 2min 17sec, and Crosbie rattled over six furlongs in lmin 17sec. Ideality ran four furlongs in 52sec, and Orativa, Pert, and Rose Noble left six furlongs behind in lmin 19 1-5 sec. Nyland, assisted by Bronze over the last five furlongs, ran three-quarters of a mile in lmin 17 2-ssec. Big Blast galloped six furlongs in lmin 19 l-ssec, and Corry and Miss Fry took lmin 20 2-ssec to negotiate the same distance. Winning Way had Autumims beaten at the end of a four furlongs run, in 49 4-ssec, a smart gallop. Countermine did half pace, work, and Formby and Bliss reeled off six furlongs in lmin 16sec. Outlander and Iranui finished together at the end of a mile and a quarter gallop, which they accomplished in 2min 16 2-ssec. Los Angelos was next sent over the same distance, and put up an excellent gallop, by cutting out ten furlongs in 2min 1 l-ssec. The Cup horse maintained a nice even pace all through, and finished in great style. Boanerges sprinted down the straight, and Gipsy Belle and Dearest covered six furlongs in lmin 19sec. Milo and Goldnin left a mile behind in lmin 49sec, and Battalion and Troon covered six furlongs in lmin 22 2-ssec. Labor Dav, moving nicely, ran six furlongs in lmin 17 2-ssec, and Somersault did a good gallop over a mile. Flambeau ran six furlongs in lmin 17 l-ssec, and White Flag galloped half a mile in 52 3-ssec. Coroniform covered the last nine furlongs of a mile and a quarter in 1 min 35 3-5 sec, and Nithsdale and Avarice reeled off five furlongs in lmin 3 2-ssec. St. Felix and St. Petersburg were responsible for running the last seven of eight furlongs in lmin 34sec, and Genius sprinted three furlongs. Turna galloped five furlongs in lmin 61-sec, and Kimmona and All Guns ran the same distance in lmin 4 4-5 sec. Sapience easily beat Ahuapai over four furlongs in 54 3-ssec, and Early Morn and Nikon accomplished a similar task in 51 4-ssec. Merrivonia galloped a mile and a quarter pleasingly in 2min 13sec, and Cronstadt and Mumura did half pace work. Query was galloping exceptionally well at the end of a mile gallop, which he accounted for in lmin 42|sec, and Master Paul did a useful gallop onco round. Considerable interest was taken when Kilosteri, Miscount, Goodwin Park, and Domino lined up for a mile and a quarter gallop, which, they covered in 2 min 12 4-ssec. Miscount, who appeared to he carrying more than his Cup weight, had all the better of the gallop, heating Domino fairly easily, with Goodwin Park a length, away, and Kilosteri last. <Miscount put up a pleasing performance, and finished resolutely. Red, White and Blue and John Bnnyan covered six furlongs in lmin 20 l-ssec, and Sea King sprinted three furlongs in 36 4-ssec. St. Aidan beat Aunt Sally over nine furlongs, which was accounted for in lmin 50sec, and St. Toney and Longstep were companions in a six furlongs gallop, which was left behind in lmin 17 l-ssec. San Lass and another left six furlongs behind in lmin 19see, and the Cornet did a useful task/ Varia and Odessa ran half a mile in 49' 4-ssec, Glade and Bandore taking 49 2-ssec for the same distance. Electrakoff and Patriotic went the last six of seven furlongs in lmin 19J sec, and Anna Carlovna, Editha, and May Dalrymple were companions in a four furlongs flutter, which took 50 2-5 sec to complete. Equitas galloped seven furlongs in lmin 31 2-ssec, and Gaelic and Passive were schooled over the hurdles. Eaglestone easily beat Miss Rosslyn over six furlongs, the last, five being run in lmin 6 3-ssec. North Pole, and Tangeroa went six furlongs in lmin 19 sec, and Mulga Bill (E. Lowe) finished a mile and a quarter gallop in 2min 17sec. Gold Battery sprinted two furlongs, and Morecombe beat Outward over seven furlongs in lmin 30 2-ssec. Faunus and Ainsdale ran five furlongs in lmin 4 2-ssec, and Armstrong, who got the best of the start, beat Kilts over six furlongs, the last five being run in lmin 4 2-ssec. After breakfast a large number of two-year-olds were exercised at the barrier on the course proper, and the majority sprinted to the winning post. Quarantine beat Glenfinnan over four furlongs in 49 4-ssec, while Andreae, Athenic, and The Count Witte—Poinsettia gelding took 51sec, Peppin and Art 50 3-ssec, and Brown Owl and Scottish Star 49 2-ssec to run the same distance. Massilia beat Lourdes and Martian Maid over the same journey in 50sec, and Beldame was several lengths ahead of Peg and Nyx as the post was reached in 49sec. Fisticuff and Susa galloped six furlongs on the plough in 52 2-ssec, and Pawky Lass sprinted three furlongs in lmin 13sec, 'and Kris covered the last seven furlongs of one mile in lmin 33' 4-ssec. Puaka galloped a mile, and Northern Light sprinted three furlongs, while Bonny Glen ran seven furlongs in lmin 33sec. Hohungatahi galloped four furlongs in 52 l-ssec, and Paisley and Gasoline left the same distance behind in 51 4-ssec. Full Rate, pulling hard, sprinted three furlongs in 38sec, and True Knight and Pleasure Bent went a mile in lmin 45sec. Palsettia and Turbine ran half a mile in 51sec. AUSTRALIAN NOTES.
