WAIAPU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Waiapu County Council was held to-day. There were present: Crs. Iv. S. 'Williams (chairman), Sherwood, Knox, T. S. Williams, and Murpliy. The following correspondence was dealt with:
From ratepayers of Matakaoa riding, Te Araroa, stating that at a meeting held on the Bth September a resolution was passed, asking the Council, as soon as the engineer .had completed the estimates of the cost of a jetty and landing shed at Te Araroa, the Council should take the necessary steps to raise the amount required. The member for Matakaoa (Cr. Heald) not being present, it \\as decided to let the matter stand over until next meeting.
From the Judge of the Native Land Court, directing the Council to pay compensation to interested persons in land taken for a cemetery at Tokomaru Bay. —Received. From the Public ’Works Department, re Waiapu bridge plans.—The Chairman moved and Cr. Murphy seconded, that tenders be called for the 6th Deco mber. —Garri ed. From the Minister of Lands re. subsidy to Tokomaru cemetery.—The chairman moved and Cr. Murphy seconded. that tenders be called for tlic 6th 1) ece mb e r.—Carr i ed.
From Mr F. Richardson, contractor, of Tokomaru Bay, asking that a copy of the agreement contract with the Council lx* signed and sealed, also asking the Council to hire him the Straker waggon.—Cr. Sherwood moved, and Cr. Murphy seconded, that a copy of the contract be signed and sealed.—Cr. Sherwood moved, and Cr. T. S. Williams seconded, that the. Straker waggon be hired at ten shillings per week, on condition that it is returned in thorough working order.—Carried. From the Under-Secretary of Public Works, asking whether the Council had undertaken work in connection with the grants placed on the Estimates this session.-—lt was agreed to undertake the work.
The Engineer’s report was read and discussed.—Cr. Knox moved, and Cr. T. S. Williams seconded, that a clerk of works be appointed for Awatere contract.—Carried.
The overseer’s report was read and discussed.—The. chairman moved, and Cr. Murphy seconded, that if the'overseer sees fit lie can put on a man for a few days on o’Regan’s road.—Carried. The Council went into committee to open tenders. On resuming, it was resolved that the tenders of Mr C. McCracken for contracts 1511 and 1611 be accepted.
The chairman moved, and Or. Sherwood seconded, that a man be put on the Horehore road.—Carried. Accounts amounting to £839 Ms l()d were passed for payment.
