A RUMOR DENIED
(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. i. A rumor published thijs) morning that the tramway employees inten led to go out on strike to-day and held up the carnival traffic was ridiculed by the union officials when brought under their notice. MERCHANT SERVICE TROUBLE. WELLINGTON, Nov. 5. The Merchant Service Guild has writ, ton to the shipowners stating that it cannot accept toe new proposal, -but is prepared to meet them in conference to discuss matters. TRAM STRIKERS RESUME. FREMANTLE, Nov. 4. The tram strikers resumed temporarily when promised an inquiry. A CONFERENCE. LONDON, Nov. 3. The Premier, Mr Buxton. Mr Askwitli, and representatives of the railway companies and workers conferred at Downing Street. The purpose of the conference has not been disclosed. TAXI DRIVERS IDLE. There are 18,000 persons out of work in consequence of the taxi cab drivers’ strike over threepence. TRAWLING STRIKE ENDED. THE HAGUE, Nov. 3. The trawling engineers liave accepted the masters’ terms, and the strike has ended. THE LITHGOW PROSECUTIONS. SYDNEY, Nov. 4. The Attorney-General is not proceeding further in the of Dixon and Cairnes in connection with the Lithgow riots, in which the jury failed to- agree.
