ROWING.
POVERTY BAY CLUB
The Poverty Bay Rowing Club held their weekly meeting at the Club house last evening. There were present, Messrs J. Webb (chairman), G. Douglas, 8. Doig, J. Corbett, A. Kirk and F. Snowden. In the second round of the trial fours S. Ledger meets the winner of the race between J. Webb and ,S. Doig. G. Douglas meets J.. McConnell’s crew.
D. Kellett meets C. Clark. Entries for second trial fours close on Saturday next at 8 o’clock. The following new member was enrolled: Mr E. Corbett.
Visiting committee for the week Messrs -J. Corbett and G. Douglas. FIRST TRIAL FOURS.
The first trial fours in connection with the Poverty Bay Club started on Saturday, when S. Ledger, B. Fuller, V. West and J. Dayman beat W. Neill, C. Hall, C. Davis and E. Forest after a very exciting race. The latter got off well, but at Nesbitt’s jetty Ledgerput in a good spurt- and Avon by '-wo feet.
■C. Clark, W. Griff-en, E. Simpson and R. Wildish beat J. Corbett-, A. J. Martin, G. King and H. DaA-ey. Corbett got AA-ell aAvay and led to the footbridge, when Clark closed up and won by three-quarters of a length. The races Avere continued last .evening, when G. Douglas, F. Snowden, V. Somervell and D. Gray defeated J. Nicolas R. Douglas, E. Folly and A. Trafford. Nicholas got aAvay AA-itli a
lead, but did not maintain this for long. Douglas, before the Roebuck Road bridge, drew up and g'ot a. good lead, winning comfortably by a length and a. half.
This evening J. Webb meets S. Doig, and G. Douglas meets J. McConnell.
