TO THE RATEPAYERS COOK COUNTY COUNCIL. WHATATJPOKO HIDING. A DIES AND GENTLEMEN,— At the request of a largo number of Ratepayer®, I have consented to become a Candidate at the forthcoming Election. I am in l favor of Progress, but with Economy, and should you return me I will make it my business to carefully watch the interests of tho Ratepayers, and endeavour to see that every penny is spent in the right direction, without fear or favour. This is my first venture into public matters, and I am, therefore, not associated with any party, and having a considerable amount of time at my disposal your interests will bo properly attended to. Being aware of the fact that the Waimata River so completely divides tho Riding, I stand in for a fair sense of justice for both sids, and for the County as a whole. Trusting to be favored with your confidence. I am. Youis faithfully, D. J. PARKER. TO THE RATEPAYERS COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.

GISBORNE RIDING. Ladies and gentlemen,— At the request of a number of Ratepayers I have consented to contest a seat on the Council as one of the Representatives for the Gisborne Riding. I take this opportunity of placing some of my views before you. (a) That the rates collected in the Gisborne Riding (should be spent in the riding. (b) That mlore metal be placed directly on the roads instead of in the depots, thereby saving a double handling. (c) Seeing that the railway has relieved the roads at the upper end of the riding of a large amount of heavy traffic, mor e screened gravel should be used on them in place of Patutalii stone. • (d) That the metal should be spread over the crown of the road instead of patching the holes as in the past. (e) That we pay rates for the privilege of using the roads, therefore the roads should be made to suit th'e traffic, instead of the traffic to suit the roads. (f) Seeing that the flats are subject to flood, it would help considerably if the road drains and outlets were kept cleaned out, to enable the surface water to get away quickly. I hare had some experience in local matters, and nave aiways taken a deep interest in the welfare of the district. Your interests are identical with mine, and if you do me the honor to elect- me as one of your representatives, I can assure you that I shall work for your interests so far as it lies in my power. I am. Yours faithfully. GILBERT E- JONES.
