MANHOOD SUFFRAGE.
MR. ASQUITH’S IDEA.
“CLEVER POLITICAL MOVE.”
(United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received Nov. 8, 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 8. Replying to a manhood suffrage deputation/Mr. Asquith (Premier) said that man’s right to vote ought to depend on citizenship solely. A rational course was to abolish the present qualifier tions and give every citizen who was a bona fide inhabitant the franchise _automically. A simple Bill will be introduced in 1912 with that object.. The Bill will not include women, but it will be open to the Commissioners to include them if it is pleased to do so. . General astonishment is expressed m the lobby. It is understood that the Government contemplate a six months residential qualification. Mr. Philip Snowden declares that Mr Asquith's action is a clever move, till the Women’s Suffrage Women’s Political Union threatens to revert to the anti-Goveminent policy.
