ANOTHER NEW STEAMER
LARGER THAN THE MAORI

The Union Steam Ship Company has just signed a contract with Denny Bros., of Dumbarton, for a new 1 express steamer for the Wellington-Lyt-telton ferry service, to take the place of the Mararoa. She will he 374 ft. long, or 24ft longer than the Maori, and 51ft. beam, or 4ft wider. She will also 'have more horse-power, and will consequently be faster than the Maori, which is already one of the fastest steamers south of the line. The new steamer will be turbine driven, as is the Maori, and the engines will contain the latest improvements in turbine engines. The passenger accommodation will be larger than that of the Maori, and will be most luxurious.
