GIRL’S TRAMP OVER ROUGH COUNTRY ON A COLD NIGHT.

An extraordinary instance of a girl walking a long distance on a bitter night, while fast asleep, is reported from Monmouth. The girl’s name is Annie Mary Smith, and she is a domestic servant in the employ of the Rev. L. M. Abbot. The girl went to bed as usual on Friday night. Early on Saturday morning Mr. Abbott was awakened by a knocking at his front door. As the knocking was not answered by the servant girl, he called her, and, getting no response, he went to her room. The bed had been slept in, but the girl had gone, and, to add to the puzzle, her clothing was in the room. E[e went downstairs, and at the door •a messenger told him that the girl during the night had reached her home cold ind ill, and clad only in her night apparel. She had in her sleep walked as far as Staunton before she aivoke. From her bedroom the girl had walked downstairs, unlocked two doors, and made her way across some coal and wood and out of the front of the bouse up a side path. She had walked over seme rough stones before reaching a gate which leads on to the Hereford Road. On the steep hill leading to Staunton she awoke. knew the district, and decided to call up some friends at Staunton, but then she realised that to arouse them would. only give them a fright, and she continued her journey to her mother’s cottage, pressing several fields.
