POVERTY BAY CLUB
Hie semi-final in the first trial fours in connection with the Poverty Bay Rowing Club was rowed off" over the Taruheru course last evening, when C. Clark, W. Griffin, P. Simson and R. Wildish defeated S. Doig, N. Cresswell, V. Wild and O. Hansen by a length after a hard race. Doig gained a slight advantage at the start, and both crews rowed' well te the footbridge, Doig still keeping his lead and Clark maintaining a steady swing all the way.. About a hundred yards past the footbridge Clark began to overhaul his opponent, and rounding the bend for home he was leading by a length. A little further on .Doig endeavored to draw up, but Clark slightly quickening his stroke, kept bis opponent well in hand, and passed the post a good length to the good. The final is to take place this evening, when Clarke’s crew tries conclusions with Douglas’. A good race is anticipated. GISBORNE CLUB. The weekly meeting of the Management Committee was held at the Club house. There were present Messrs C. O. Hansen (in the chair), I. J. Quigley, D. H. Faram, C. Somervell, H. Tocker, P. R. McConville and L. It. Bright. A good deal of routine business was transacted, and C. W. Devery was elected a member. It was decided to commence the races in the A. grade for Robertson’s Trophies and B. grade for Nicholls’ and Griffiths’ trophies. The following is tire draw : —A. Grade. — Tuesday.—Pycroft v. Miller : deLautour v. Quigley; Cumming a. bye. Wednesday.—McConville v. Gully. Thursday.—No races. Friday.—Cumming v. winner deUautonr—Quigley ; winner Pycroft—Miller v. winner Gnlly—McConville. Saturday, : —Finals. —B. Grade.— Tuesday.—Toeker v. G. H. Puflett; Everiss r. W. S. Coleman. Wednesday.—P. Hamilton v. H. M. Puflett; Jeffries v. Rutherford. Thursday.—No races. Friday. —Winner Everiss —W. S. Coleman v. winner Hamilton —H. M. Puflett ; winner Tocker —G. H. Puflett v. ■winner Jeffries —Rutherford. Saturday.—'Finals. Messrs C. 0. Hansen and C. Somervell were appointed judge and starter respectively. Messrs Faram and Quigley were appointed a visiting committee for the week. The challenge pair-oar race, Winter and Moore versus Pycroft and deLautour will be rowed at 3 p.m. this afternoon on the Waimata course.
