A STEADY INCREASE.

At the Presbyterian Assembly a committee was appointed to consider the question of Baptism and recommended: (1) That before administering the ordinance the minister require on the part of at least one parent, profession of faith in Christ and obeisance to Him; (2) as far as possible the administration of ordinance to he in public at the ordinary time of worship on the Lord’s Day; (3) when the ordinance,is administered in a private family intimation of time and place be made from the pulpit, so that members of the church may attend. A religious service shall be held, and' if possible an elder shall accompany the minister ; (4) that the oer_ tifieate of baptism be given to a parent.
The first, second and fourth recommendations were approved, and the third was deleted.
The statistics committee reported* an increased membership of 1762, about b per cent. The church indebtedness showed an increase of £214. The increase in the total revenue was over £IO,OOO, being £141.000. The total liability was about £75,000. The _ Presbyterian population of the Dominion was. 234,723. an increase of 31,126 in the last five years. The report was adopted.
