BOWLING.

TURANGANUI CLUB. Th© members of the Turanganui Club had a field day yesterday, play commencing at 10 a.m., and was continued till dusk. There was a large attendance ojf players, and the fair sex patronised tiie green well in the afternoon, indulging in croquet.. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs A. Sawyer, while Mrs. B. Hird and others assisted in the dispensing, the refreshments being much appreciated. A number of match games were played in the Bennett Cup competition, and a game in the Hird Pairs. The results were:——Bennett Cup.— A. Sawyer 25 beat R. Tlielwall 11.— Sawyer jumped off with three 3’s, but on the loth head Sawyer was only four to the good—ls td 11. From this point, however, Tlielwall failed to score, while his opponent ran up ten points. F. Gray 30 beat J. B. Leydon 11.— Out the 4th head Gray assumed the lead, and drawing well scored rapidly, ultimately winning by the large margin of 19 points. M. A. Neill 17 beat W. Bruce 16. The smallness of the scores indicate the closeness of the game, tike players keeping together throughout. On the '2oth head Bruce drew three lovely touchers, and his four also lay a scorer. Neill, however, with a firm draw, carried tlhe jack through with his last howl and scored a single, making the score 16 all. In the final head Bruce lay two but Neill repeated his previous performance. • he snicked the jack through with his last bowl and scored a single. S. Wootto.n 21 beat C. J. Bennett 15. —ln the early stages Bennett led, but Wootton eventually passed him and won by six points. A. Sawyer £4 beat B. Hird 11.—This game promised well, and the first, six head provided some good play, but from this point Hird went off his play and Sawyer achieved an easy victory by 13 points. W. Hay 20 beat C. Taylor 13.—Right throughout the game Hay had the upper hand, his drawing exceeding his opponent’s. A. Wallace 21 beat F. Gray 17.—This was ran excellent match, the result being in doubt up to the last head. Challenges to star games in the competition have now been issued by the following: Tlielwall, to play Sawyer; Bruce, to play Neill; Hird, to play Sawyer ; Gray, to play Wallace. —Hird Pairs.— Entries for this competition closed yesterday morning, and handicaps were made and the pairs drawn as follows — W. GISBORNE CLUB. The Gisborne Bowlin" green was fully occupied yesterday with the decision of a number of Licensed Victuallers’, handicap pair matches and several practice games. In the morning three games were played and they resulted as follows: —Handicap pairs: Pavitt (sub) and Wootton (skip) 35 beat Burton and Colebrook (skip) 29; Maher (sub) and Brown (skip) 24 beat Hamilton and Smith (skip) 21. Humphreys and McMillan (skip) 28 beat Leslie (sub) and Craig (skip) 22. Practice games: Ambridge, Hodgson, Witty and Crawford (skip) 24 beat Townson, Tackle, Bullock and Samson (skip) 16; Chrisp, Green, Lewis and Paltridge (skip) 27 beat R. Crawford, Gibbs, Roberts and Eure (skip) 17. The seniors will play on the Gisborne green and the juniors on the Turanganui green. The first njatch will take place on Thursday next.
