THE AUCKLAND FIRE.

WAS BURGLARY ATTEAIPTED ?

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 20

It is stated that an investigation of the safe in Mackey, Logan and Caldwell’s premises, destroyed by fire, showed 12 or 14 deep incisions close to the handle, apparently caused by a chisel. The contents of the safe included several hundred pounds worth of light jewellery. This gives some color to the theory that there may be some connection between the conflagration and an unisuccessful attempt at burglary.
